Art Quilt - Pas de la Neige
Art Quilt - Pas de la Neige
This piece is inspired by a northern winter, where the snow appears white, blue, grey, or black depending on the quality of light on the day. The bits of brown and red reflect the braches with the occasional berry which you might find peaking out of the snow. The pattern is constructed in the style of a tradidional patchwork pattern called 'Drunkard's Path', but reimagined in a contemporary way through the double gradation of colours. There are 640 individually cut pieces with hundred of different colours selected from the artists carefully curated collection of fabric, either purchased, found, and often hand-dyed. The back of the piece is made from hand-dyed cotton velvet, dyed specifically for this project to reflect the colours seen on the front. The title is taken from a piece of 'Impressionist music' which translates as 'Footsteps on the Snow'.
