Mindful Maker

I’m Paul Murphy. I grew up on a small farm on the beautiful, rugged Beara Peninsula surrounded by sea, cliffs, patchwork fields and old stone walls. Nature and tradition permeated my childhood and still inspire me today as I design and create furniture, gifts and homeware from native Irish timbers. I love working with sustainably sourced, local storm-felled timber, especially Irish Oak, Ash, Elm, Yew and spalted Beech.

My creative process is mindful. Learning from the past and using traditional joinery, each handcrafted piece is as unique as the tree it came from. For me, the beauty of the grain and the warm, natural feel of the wood is what make our Native timbers so special to work with. This is why every one of my pieces, from traditional milking stools to candle holders and serving boards, is carefully paired back to the absolute minimum, letting the inherent beauty of the timber speak for itself.
