Symbiogenesis (ceramic)
Symbiogenesis (ceramic)
From the Morphosis series :
“In this series the origins of organic life are examined, drawing inspiration from a range of sources in the natural world– from root systems to microorganisms. Through the creation process, these flowing, intuitive works begin to take on an energy of their own. In both clay and metal, the work possesses an amorphous, ethereal quality. The jewellery, forged from solid sterling silver, uses a variety of traditional metalsmithing techniques. Sinuous shapes wrap around and grow from the body; amoeba-like forms rest enclosed in delicate rings and pendants. In clay these structures are transformed from miniature to large scale, becoming sculptures which bring a sense of life to the space they inhabit.”
This sculptural form has two small drawers where an incense cone could be placed- the smoke travels through the hollow, twisting arms of the piece, creating a flowing effect.
